CANADA-ALBERTA JOB GRANT | THE ESTHETIC INSTITUTE IS A POST SECONDARY INSTITUTION
The Canada-Alberta Job Grant (CAJG) is an employer driven training program where employers and government share the cost of training new and existing employees to increase their knowledge and skills to meet the needs of Albertas economy.
HOW THE CANADA-ALBERTA JOB GRANT CAN WORK FOR YOU
By supporting and investing in employee training, the Canada-Alberta Job Grant (CAJG) helps you increase productivity employee skills, and employee retention. The CAJG can be applied to many training situations, offering employers potential solutions to their workplace challenges.
The CAJG is an employer driven training program. As employers, you decide who in your business would benefit for training and what type of training may be required for new and existing employees.
Employers will cover a minimum of one third of direct training costs and the government will subsidize up to two thirds, to a minimum of $10,000 and maximum of $15,000 per trainee. If hiring and training an unemployed Albertan, you will receive up to 100% of the training maximum, equivalent to $15,000.
HOW MUCH CANADA-ALBERTA JOB GRANT FUNDING CAN AN EMPLOYER GET?
Eligible employers are required to contribute a minimum of one-third of the total training cost. Government contributes two-thirds of the cost to a maximum $10,000 per trainee. If hiring and training an employed Albertan, up to 100% of training costs could be covered, up to $15,000 per trainee. Individual employers will have a cap on the amount of grant funding they can receive annually ($300,000) to ensure that funding will be available for as many Alberta employers as possible.

Eligible employers
All private sector and non-profit employers in Alberta including sole proprietors
First Nations and Metis Settlements in Alberta
Designated Crown Corporations in communities of 100,000 people or less
Eligible trainees
New or existing employees that will fill current or future job vacancies
Unemployed Albertans (unemployed for more that 30 consecutive days and hired by the employer for no more that 4 weeks prior to signing and submitting the CAJG application)
Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) entitled to work in Canada who are currently residing in Alberta
Ineligible trainees
Temporary Foreign Workers, or anyone temporary working in Canada
Self-employed individuals, company owners and their immediate family members, board or council members
A person who will not be employed by the applicant after the training program is completed
Training Providers
Must be accepted Alberta third-party training providers who are separate and distinct from the employer
Eligible training
Training must be incremental, meaning that the training is an addition to the employer’s regular operational training and would not have otherwise taken place without the grant
Exceptions are made where the trainee is an unemployed hire who requires training, upgrading or bridging before starting the job.
Training must be instructional and result in a credential
Ineligible training
Apprenticeship technical training programs
Self-study models (e.g. audio books instructional DVDs, ect)
Training duration and format
Minimum 21 instructional hours of training must start with 6 months of approval an be completed within 52 weeks of start date.
Training that starts before grant is approved will not be reimbursed
Training can be delivered online, on-site, in a classroom or combined, on a part-time or full-time basis
HOW DOES APPLYING FOR THE GRANT WORK?
There are three steps in the grant application process:
Employers complete, sign and submit all sections of the Canada-Alberta Job Grant Application
Following the approval of the Application, and after training has been paid for, employers submit a Canada-Alberta Job Grant Reimbursement form along with applicable receipts. Employers are then reimbursed for one-third of the training cost. When training is short term, or where an employer does not require partial reimbursement before the training is finished, the reimbursement and completion forms may be submitted together at the end of training.
Upon training completion, a Canada-Alberta Job Grant Completion Form will be submitted to the Government of Alberta and an additional one-third of training costs will be reimbursed. The remaining one-third of training costs is paid for by the employer.
