BETTY ANN NEWTON

As a certified Full Esthetic diploma program Esthetician, Betty Ann has been in the esthetic industry for over 30 years. For the past 20 years, she has been an educator for The Esthetic Institute Training Center and is also a consultant with Beauty Depot.

She has received her Masters in Skin Care from Repêchage, in New York and has been trained in Serene Pharmaceutical Skin Care, Cara, TUEL and Bernard Cassière Skin Care. In addition she has received extensive training from Silhouet Tone, one of the leading advanced esthetic equipment companies in the industry. Betty Ann has a deep passion for education. Her vision is to teach students to not only care for and improve client’s skin conditions, but to also touch with focus, love and compassion.

With her unique and considerable ability to nurture, she patiently tries to instill these compassionate thoughts to each of her students. Betty Ann brings to our industry a deep concern and care for others. She elevates esthetic industry standards from more than just skin care but also to individual care.....one student at a time.

MEREDITH THOMPSON, B.Sc., CIDESCO diploma, C.Pod.(I) Principal Educator - CIDESCO programs

Meredith holds a CIDESCO Beauty Therapy diploma and has been an educator with The Esthetic Institute Training Center since 2008. In 2012, Meredith returned to university, and graduated from the University of Calgary with a bachelor’s degree in Cellular, Molecular, and Microbial Biology in 2016. In addition, Meredith is an entrepreneur and spa consultant, and serves as Vice President of the Canadian Esthetics and Spa Association and is a certified podologist with the Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners. “I’m proud to represent The Esthetic Institute and participate in the development of CIDESCO-trained Canadian beauty & spa practitioners and businesspeople. By choosing a CIDESCO diploma program, graduates join a global family of professionals who value knowledge and education, and who aim to be the best at what they do." An outdoors-woman, Meredith feels blessed to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and enjoys hiking and skiing in the mountain ranges of western Canada in her free time.

CINDY DAFOE

Cindy received her cosmetology license in 1986. She worked in a salon for 5 years before taking a break to have 5 wonderful children. Cindy has also worked in a hospice and in office management. She has also ran and maintained a successful hair and esthetic home-based business, called TLC Esthetics. Cindy's time is dedicated to taking care of her family and working with her clients. She is very passionate about doing what she can to help people and make them feel good about themselves. She has been a member of the Beauty Depot team since 2009 and began instructing at The Esthetic Institute Training Center in 2012. Her philosopy is simple: "I love helping people, I love learning & I love teaching."

JACKY TATTRIE

Jacky began her career in the beauty industry in 1982. She received her Cosmetology diploma in 1984 and has continued to further her education by taking countless advanced courses; including Advanced Pedicuring, specializing in toenail reconstruction, treatment of foot conditions, and diabetic foot care. In addition, she specializes in the most current proficient techniques in Waxing, Artificial Nails and Skincare modalities. Jacky has been an instructor at The Esthetic Institute since 2014 and recently has been selected as the Department Head for TEI's Full Esthetic Program. Her goal is to ensure every student learns in a fun and motivational way. As she has experienced many exceptional and influential instructors, it is her commitment to pass the same experience to each one of her students. Jacky feels “It is very rewarding seeing students learn from myself, however even more rewarding what I learn from them.”

TAMARA ROSAS

Certified Skin Specialist | Medical Laser Expert | Educator

With over 25 years of experience in the Esthetics and Medical Laser industry, Tamara Rosas has built a reputation for providing exceptional care to her clients while customizing treatments to meet their individual needs. Her journey began in 1996, and over the years, she has gained extensive knowledge of skin conditions and laser technologies, successfully helping clients regain their confidence and love their skin once again.

After seven years in the industry, Tamara opened her own clinic, The Lasers Edge, in Calgary, where she ran a successful business for 10 years. During this time, she honed her expertise with various laser technologies, delivering excellent results through personalized protocols tailored to each client. In 2006, she was awarded a certificate of excellence for her advanced knowledge in laser technology. This expertise has been invaluable, not only in her practice but also in her role as an educator. Since 2009, Tamara has been teaching laser courses at The Esthetic Institute Training Center, where she takes great pride in training and inspiring future industry leaders.

Tamara also has experience hosting and presenting on a variety of medical-grade laser devices, thoroughly explaining the science behind the technology and outlining protocols to achieve the best results. This experience has deepened her understanding and further enhanced her ability to educate both clients and students on how to use these devices effectively.

Passionate about sharing the knowledge she has acquired over the years, Tamara firmly believes that "Knowledge is Power." She is dedicated to empowering her students with the skills and confidence to achieve outstanding results for their clients. Her approach to teaching emphasizes passion, integrity, commitment, and a strong work ethic, which she believes are the keys to success in this field. Through a supportive and engaging learning environment, Tamara guides her students to embrace the art and science of lasers, preparing them for a fulfilling career that will make a real difference in their clients' lives.

Deeply grateful for the opportunity to help others succeed, seeing her students and clients thrive is her greatest reward. Tamara looks forward to continuing to teach, share, and learn alongside the next generation of skin care professionals.

ANGELA ROWLAND

Angela’s career started first in health care. She graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse for 14 years, with the bulk of those years spent as a Diabetes Educator. After 14 years she made the decision to transition to the world of esthetics. She trained in clinical esthetics and worked awhile in the spa industry before going back to school yet again to get her esthetics diploma from The Esthetic Institute of Calgary. Angela also holds a certification in Oncology Esthetics as well as Advanced Pedicures and provides safe and approved Oncology treatments at The Esthetic Institute Spa. Working with people is all she has ever wanted to do and is honoured to be an educator at TEI.

TRENA OLFERT

Trena Laine is a highly successful entrepreneur, recognized for her leadership across multiple ventures for the past 20 years. As the founder and CEO of Trena Laine Makeup Co, she has skillfully guided the company to remarkable growth and success in the beauty, fashion, and education sectors.

Over the past decade, Trena has established herself as a dynamic workshop leader and facilitator, celebrated for her ability to inspire and empower participants. With extensive experience and expertise in personal and professional development, she leads individual sand groups through engaging and insightful webinars, creating an environment conducive to growth and learning.

Additionally, her steadfast partnership with The Esthetic Institute over 12+ years has been pivotal in fostering growth for their students in the industry. Trena takes pride in mentoring graduates through her Fundamentals Makeup Artist Level 1 and the Advanced Makeup Diploma Program, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to thrive in the beauty industry. Trena's visionary leadership, strategic acumen, and unwavering commitment to excellence have solidified her as a prominent figure in the community, showcasing her entrepreneurial prowess and innovative spirit.

PATRICIA CLIFFORD

Patricia Clifford is a mother to 4 beautiful children. She has been an Esthetician for 11 years taking most of her education through The Esthetic Institute Training Center. Threading was introduced to her 16 years ago through her immigrated relatives and she has been practicing ever since. Patricia has a passion for detail, which has excelled her business and created a constant income for her. Her care for people has developed true friendships and relationships to beautiful women that inspire her to achieve higher and educate better. She loves to teach people and see them achieve their dreams in being an educated Esthetician in such an incredible industry. Prior to starting her career in Esthetics, Patricia studied hair design at Marvel College in 1999 and later took business courses at a career college in 2001. This was a successful entry point into the salon industry where she soon found her passion and future as an Esthetician.

MARNIE PALLESEN

Marnie began her career in adult education as a conference planner at the University of Calgary. After a break to have children, she started her journey into the world of esthetics so she could work from home with a flexible schedule. Marnie has run her own esthetics business, Pretty In Skin Laser Studio Inc. since 2013 after completing her training at The Esthetic Institute. She was motivated to join the industry by a strong desire to help women feel good about themselves from the inside out. Marnie believes that our industry can help give our clients an amazing feeling of self-confidence that will help them shine in their own unique way! By joining the amazing team of other educators at The Esthetic Institute in 2020, Marnie hopes to share this passion with her students and to encourage them to be the best they can be. Outside of her Esthetics career, Marnie assists in day to day management of her husband’s business and enjoys spending time with their two teenagers and two tiny Yorkies.

MEL STONEHOUSE

Mel is a Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant, a Mom and a Business Owner. It was Mel’s individual path to wellness that contributed to her deep interest in nutrition. This interest became a career path after she returned to school and completed a diploma at Calgary School for Natural Nutrition. During her schooling and through her work as a C.H.N.C, Mel has developed a vast knowledge of how the body works and an awareness of the impact nutrition, mindfulness and self-care can have on promoting optimal health.

NADIA MAHERALI

Nadia has had a passion for everything beauty related from a young age. She has done services, including manicures and pedicures to makeup artistry, however her true focus developed into a passion for skincare and product knowledge. Nadia took the Advanced Clinical Esthetic diploma program at The Esthetic Institute in 2019. Her interest and passion grew even more with each clinical course she took and she developed a special bond with lead laser educator, Tamara Rosas, while taking her classes. The opportunity emerged for Nadia to work as Tamara's clinical laser assistant for laser courses, as well as teaching body contouring. Nadia enjoys continuing her education and knowledge and regularly attends additional training seminars with Tamara from leading global experts in the industry, including technologies from Inmode, Cutera, Clarion and Candela. Nadia enjoys working with students and helping them learn and develop new skills. She has a special interest in treating acne clients and anti-aging. It is her ultimate goal to have her clients feeling happy and content with their skin so that they are comfortable with or without makeup. Outside of work, Nadia has a huge love for animals, and is a dog mom to 2 very spoiled chihuahuas.

BRITTANY KELLOW

Brittany is a postgraduate CIDESCO Beauty Therapist with 6 years of experience.  With this credential and education, she offers a variety of esthetics services as Lead Esthetician at her day spa. She is also a Teaching Assistant, and a graduate, of the Beauty & Spa Management CIDESCO Diploma with The Esthetic Institute. She is a two-time medalist for Skills Canada, a well-known trades competition at both the Provincial and Regional levels and is now a Judge for the Provincial level Esthetics competition. 

Her hope for her students is to instill a passion for not only the service side of the industry, but the managerial and ownership aspects as well. When she isn't at the spa, Brittany enjoys spending time with her critters and is a long-time foster parent supporting the Calgary Humane Society. 

ROCHELLE WENDT

Rochelle is a dedicated instructor and graduate of the Advanced Clinical Esthetic diploma program at The Esthetic Institute Training Center. Specializing in advanced skincare techniques, she is passionate about science-based skincare and innovative advancements in esthetics. As an instructor, Rochelle is committed to nurturing future Estheticians, emphasizing a blend of technical skill, creativity, and personalized client care to equip students to succeed in the dynamic world of beauty and wellness.

JOJO CHAN

Jo Jo, an honours' graduate of a complete Esthetics Program in Calgary, has been in the industry for 7 years; with professional experience ranging from Day Spa services (Waxing, Manicures, Pedicures, Gel Polish Applications, Body Wraps, Sugaring, Facials and Tinting) to Clinical services (HydraFacials, Dermaplaning, Microblading and Microdermabrasion). While performing such services on a regular basis, she has accepted opportunities to assist with management roles and training junior Estheticians at both franchise and local spas throughout her journey. As a well-rounded Esthetician, Jo Jo has gained substantial knowledge and skills in retail sales, as well as client complications within the service industry. Although having a variety of these certificates under her belt, her specialty lies in speed waxing, especially hard wax, but nail art is her passion. Interested in perfecting her skills at nail art is what brought her to explore the world of Esthetics. Jo Jo's motto is to create pieces of art on even the smallest of canvases to bring out different types of personalities that speaks for itself. Genuinely believing that even the shortest of nails deserves to have fun too, she will guide you through efficient tips and tricks of the trade to creating the trendiest nail art at ease.

LUISA GULLACE

Certified Esthetician, Certified Oncology Esthetic, Linfo Skin Taping Expert

Luisa is a certified Esthetician, graduating in Italy in 1986. She began her career shortly after and has more than 30 years of experience as an Esthetician and spa owner, working in both Italy and Canada. Daring to move beyond the realm of traditional esthetics, Luisa has specialized her treatment offerings in skin and body imperfections, severe acne, rosacea, dehydration, wrinkles, elasticity, hypertrichosis, body and face oedema, lower and upper limbs water retention, localized fat and cellulite. Creating customized, result driven esthetic programs for clients is a passion of Luisa’s and part of her professional ability that she prides herself in.

Luisa later expanded her esthetic services in the specialized treatment of Oncology Esthetics by helping cancer patients. In addition, she works with clients affected by diabetes, lymphedema and lipedema as well as severe acne. 

In 2009, Luisa moved to Canada and in 2013 graduated as an Oncology Esthetician by attending O.T.I. (Oncology Training International), facilitated by founder Morag Currin. In 2014, Luisa furthered her studies in Italy, taking the Italian language version the O.T.I. training at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan taught by Angela Noviello. In addition, she studied the “Salute allo Specchio”, (Health in the Mirror), psychological clinic program, delivered by Dott. Valentina Di Mattei. Luisa took additional advanced training in Oncology in 2015 and again in 2022 under the direction of Morag Currin at The Esthetic Institute Training Center. She very much looks forward to sharing her extensive knowledge with her students and inspiring them to make a difference in the lives of their clients.

MARY STEWART

Mary has been an esthetician for 24 years, her caring and bubbly personality make this industry a perfect fit for her! Throughout these years she has done many things within the esthetic industry. Mary has worked at world class Spas, she has assisted in opening a boutique spa from the ground up and has also ran her own spa from home. When she isn't spending time with her family, you will find her reading, pod casting, thrifting or spending time with friends who are like family.

Mary is a go getter and she also owns and runs two businesses here in Calgary, one is a gift shop with a focus on self care and esthetics and the other is a thrifted finds shop. 

Over the years, Mary has continued her education in many ways and is also a graduate from some of our medical esthetics courses right here at The Esthetic Institute. She is passionate about the esthetics industry and is very proud to be joining such a class act team here at The Esthetic Institute. 

Mary has always been keen to let the people she is teaching know that there are no silly questions and we are always learning. 

RYLIE LANT

Rylie is a passionate TA (Teacher Assistant) in the CIDESCO Beauty Therapy program and works in a medi spa where she enjoys making people feel great in their skin. 

She is a graduate of the CIDESCO Beauty Therapy as well as the Advanced Clinical Esthetics program and we are thrilled to have her supporting the newest students going through their CIDESCO diploma journey!
